CONTEMPORARY ART FROM TURKEY
WILL OPEN ITS DOORS ON THE 17TH OF FEBRUARY 2020 IN KYIV

Turkish contemporary art will take place at the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine in Kyiv between February 17- March 15, 2020.
26 Turkish artists will participate to the show curated by Bedri Baykam, who is also a member of the National Academy of Fine Arts of Ukraine since 2018.
The show is comprised by artists born in between 1951 and 1988 and the reflect the works of three generations of Turkish artists, after 1980. Those are the independently made artworks that especially tend to show wide range of contemporary art produced in Turkey with a rich variety of mediums and techniques.
A series of exchange exhibitions have been decided between Victor Sydorenko who is the Director of the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and Bedri Baykam who is an artist/writer and the founder of Piramid Sanat. Firstly, Sydorenko had invited Baykam for his solo show “Bedri Baykam Works From the Last Decade” which has been shown at the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine in March 2018. That show was followed by “The Memory of Unconsciousness” at Piramid Sanat in September 2019 with artists Victor Sydorenko, Valentin Popov/Drew Altizer, as a parallel event of the İstanbul Biennale.
After 1,5 year of work and preparations by the organizing art center Piramid Sanat, finally the show entitled “Contemporary Art form Turkey” is about to be opened in Kyiv.
Now, next step is to organize and to bring a show entitled “Contemporary Art from Ukraine” to İstanbul.
The show will come with a 144 pages catalog that will carry four forewords. One by the Mayor of İstanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu; another one by the Director of the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Victor Sydorenko; the other one by art critic and academician, Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman and the last one by Bedri Baykam as the curator.
About 30 artists, journalists and the organizers of the show from Turkey, will attend this event with the contribution of the sponsors, İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Piramid Sanat, the Hitay Foundation, Nart, Beko and Godiva.
